Our Story

It began as an idea – a way to invite the youth to step up and pay it forward through small acts of kindness. We thought of a way we could spread love not only in one area but to places that can be reached by way of transportation and thus, The Giving Truck, was created. It is a non-profit foundation that aims to tap the youth to provide help and support for populations experiencing homelessness or marginalization throughout the Lower Mainland.

The Giving Truck is a vehicle that roams around different cities and hands out material donations such as food, clothing, inspirational cards and toys. It also aims to provide free services such as haircuts, sports activities, pet therapy, crafts, childminding and many more.

Covid-19 Response

MEAL PROGRAM AT THE MEN’S HOSTEL
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Giving Truck took action in the Downtown Eastside to ensure that the residents at the Men’s Hostel receive a warm meal every month. Meals are safely prepared in licensed kitchens, individually packed by volunteers, and served by staff at the Men’s Hostel.

CARE TO CONNECT
The Giving Truck team created “Care to Connect,” a project raising awareness on youth homelessness and focusing on the importance of family bonding especially during quarantine. Every week, a different challenge was introduced. We had families submit videos and photos of them baking and cooking together, striking poses for a family photoshoot, and competing in paper airplane competitions. We won $5000 from the Push for Change Foundation and have decided to donate all our winnings to our charity of choice, “Covenant House”, to further their programs for at-risk youth.
